Duane Rankin of the Montgomery Advertiser took first place in the Associated Press Sports Editors 2014 contest in the Multimedia D category for his video compilation of three amazing finishes: Trevor Releford’s 50-footer, Nick Marshall’s miracle TD pass and Antonio Nelson’s half-court winner.
Rankin, who recorded all three finishes, will be presented a first-place plaque at the 2015 APSE banquet. The banquet and awards dinner concludes the APSE Conference June 24-27 at The Westgate Hotel in San Diego, Calif.
The Athens Banner Herald placed second for its interactive on nine standout local athletes. The piece on each athlete included a photo gallery, video, bio and breakdown of the player’s stats. Hannah Baldwin of the Columbia Missourian was third for “Sidelined,” a look at Jacob Biddle, who’s dealing with the effects of six concussions.
Sports editors in the Class D category submitted 22 multimedia entries. In early February in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. judges selected selected and ranked the top nine.
The contest is open to APSE members. Go to this link to join.
