And if you’re not, you need to start.

APSE wants to help.

Ryan Sholin, the director of news innovation of Publish2, will lead a workshop at the APSE convention in Pittsburgh on June 25.

His discussion will detail networked journalism and using the Internet to expand coverage, engage fans and build community.

Publish2 specializes in link journalism. It’s kind of a one-stop shopping for news.

Sholin has written for years about the future of news and journalism on his blog, www.ryansholin.com. He has built large followings across Twitter, Facebook, Friendfeed, and others and is the driving force behind www.wiredjournalists.com.

He also knows how to help journalists. Sholin was previously the directory of community site publishing at Gatehouse where he worked daily with editors on learning the social web.

Social media sites like Facebook and Twitter can be used by writers and editors to promote stories or blogs. Columnist John Clay of the Lexington Herald-Leader www.twitter.com/johnclayiv with 2,729 followers, Orlando Sentinel sports topic editor Tim Stephens www.twitter.com/twstephens with 2,563 followers and New York Times sports editor Tom Jolly www.twitter.com/TomJolly with 1,1179 followers are prime examples.

APSE has been successful creating a community on Facebook with 211 members since February at www.facebook.com/home.php#/group.php?gid=47675288250.

Last month APSE starting sending out news on Twitter www.twitter.com/APSE_sportmedia.

And APSE can also be found at LinkedIn to connect with other writers and editors www.linkedin.com/groups?gid=1974458
