The Star Tribune in Minneapolis has an opening for a reporter to cover all aspects of high school sports. This is a two-year position as part of our apprentice reporting program.
 
Topics on this beat will include game coverage, breaking news, features, profiles and enterprise on athletes, coaches and trends for both the newspaper and online. This reporter will also be expected to blog extensively and produce video.
 
This reporter will work flexible hours, including nights and weekends, and will be responsible for some early morning shifts updating the website with fresh content based on the news of the day: expanding on big games or performances from the night before with follow-up calls or e-mails; and setting up big games for the coming day or weekend.
 
During the non-high school season, this reporter will be expected to help with coverage of our local college and professional teams, write news and features and develop ideas for enterprise.
 
Qualifications:  Requires ability to cover games and file stories in a timely manner, write features and develop ideas. This reporter should have experience covering sports and the ability to quickly assess spot news potential and adapt to fast-breaking news situations.
