L.A. Times’ Farmer wins Over-175,000 Beat Writing award

Sam Farmer of the Los Angeles Times won the beat writing award for the over 175,000 circulation category at the 2015 Associated Press Sports Editors contest for his coverage of the chance of an NFL team coming to Los Angeles where it might end up playing.

San Jose’s Wilner wins Over 175K Features category

Jon Wilner of the San Jose Mercury News took first place in the Associated Press Sports Editors 2015 contest in Features writing for the Over 175,000 circulation category for his story on how Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr is guided by the life examples set by his father, Malcolm Kerr, a Middle East scholar who was murdered in 1984.

Newsday takes first place in Over-175K Project Reporting

A seven-person team from Newsday won first place in the Associated Press Sports Editors 2015 contest in Project writing for the Over 175,000 circulation category. Jim Baumbach, Neil Best, Robert Cassidy, Bob Glauber, Mark La Monica, Kimberley A. Martin and Tom Rock won for a series examining the challenges faced by NFL players when their careers come to an end.

The Washington Post’s Hobson, Rich earn first in Investigative category

Will Hobson and Steven Rich of The Washington Post took first place in the Associated Press Sports Editors 2015 contest in Investigative Reporting. Through Freedom of Information Act requests and review of thousands of pages of documents, the reporters’ winning entry exposed instances of extravagant spending within some of the nation’s largest athletic departments at a time when tuition costs are soaring and academic departments are facing unprecedented budgetary shortfalls.

L.A. Times’ Plaschke takes first in Over 175K Columns

Bill Plaschke of the Los Angeles Times took first place in the Associated Press Sports Editors 2015 contest in Column Writing for the Over 175,000 circulation category. Plaschke will be presented a first-place plaque at the 2016 APSE banquet. The banquet and awards dinner concludes the APSE Conference June 22-­25 at the Omni-Charlotte Hotel in Charlotte, N.C.

Boston Globe team wins Over-175,000 short video

The Boston Globe’s team of Taylor DeLench, Kevin Dupont, Dana Sinerate and Matt Pepin won first place for short video in the 2015 Associated Press Sports Editors 2015 contest for their work on the rivalry between the Boston Bruins and Montreal Canadiens hockey teams.

Yahoo! Sports team captures first place in Long Video

The Yahoo! Sports video team of Ryan Dornbusch, Keri Barron,Ryan Dornbusch, Keri Barron, Jason Klabacha, Brad Williams, Victor Velazquez, April Tucker and Andy Behrens won first place in the Long Video category in the 2015 Associated Press Sports Editors contest in the under 175,000 circulation category.

Newsday wins Over-175,000 Multimedia

A 17-person team from Newsday won the multimedia category in the 2015 Associated Press Sports Editors contest in the over 175,000 circulation category. The team took a look at football helmets and concussions in the Long Island area as it pertains to local kids.

St. Louis Post-Dispatch’s Goold wins first place in APSE 75-175,000 Beat Writing

Derrick Goold, who covers the St. Louis Cardinals for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, won first place in the Associated Press Sports Editors 2015 contest in Beat Writing for the 75-175,000 circulation category.

Buffalo News trio wins first place in 75-175,000 Breaking News
